Who We Are
Outdoor Outlet is a seller of camping equipment headquartered in Southern California. We specialize in bringing you backpacking and family camping products.
Outdoor Outlet has a high percentage of employees that love camping and use
the products they sell. These employees have direct experience with many products
and are able to give help and advice to customers to help them choose the right
product for their intended use.
Founded in 1983 as a single retail store in St George Utah, Outdoor Outlet has
expanded into the mail order business and also began selling across the internet
in 1997. Outdoor Outlet maintains a rapid response to e-mail queries and will
also answer internet questions over its 800 number to make sure customers are
happy with their purchase decisions.

Our History
The original store location was only a short distance from what
was at that time a Kelty Pack manufacturing plant in St George Utah. This store
was owned by Kellwood Co, also the parent company of Wenzel ( has been
making tents and sleeping bags in America - over 100 years old) and Kelty Pack
( started by Dick Kelty in California -1952.) The store opened in May of 1983. Most of the product carried the first few years was from the Wenzel Division or Kelty Division of Kellwood Company. Very few things came from anywhere else.
In fact, the original name of the store was the "Wenzel Outlet Store."
The store's name was changed to Outdoor Outlet in the 2nd year of operation.
Within a few months time after opening, it was clear that the store would be
a success and other stores were considered and within a few years there were
7 stores across the nation. Locations included Vermont, Alabama, Missouri, Texas, Colorado, and Utah.
After a few years, Kellwood company, the owner of the stores decided to get out of the retail business and all of the stores were
sold or closed. The St. George Utah store was eventually purchased by, and operated for
many years by Aspen Outdoor Products Inc operating out of St George, Utah.
In May-June 1984 Outdoor Outlet moved into the building at 1062 East Tabernacle in St George Utah,
and was open in this location for 24 years before the retail store was closed in December of 2009.
Over the first 24 years, the product line was expanded to include general camping lines and accessories
and sales were growing every year. We started a small mail order business in the early 1990's and it has
turned out to be a large part of our revenue - including our web site store.

we use many of them. This means our customers many times get the benefit of
advice from other users, not just telephone sales people reading specifications.

we will find out for you in most cases.

days - internet average is much longer than that.
Trust - we don't charge your card until within 48 hours of shipping.
We use secure transactions to safeguard your data, and we keep your personal
information confidential. We further secure your personal information by removing
it from our secured internet server insuring no one will "hack" into
our system to get it.
Value - We offer quality products at fair prices. In many cases we offer
reduced price products that are still of good quality. We don't offer products
that we feel will not fill the purpose to which they are intended, or that are
of poor quality or bad materials.

Outdoor Outlet At This Point In Time
The guiding hand behind the company, and Owner for nearly 20 years was getting a
little tired of the retail part of the business. The retail store was closed in 2008 and the web
site was put up for sale. Negotiations started with a new potential owner in the spring of 2009
and ended with a partnership agreement. The old owner stayed on to help with the new Outdoor Outlet.
We are now based in South Pasadena, California. We carry many of the same products, and hope to build
the company to be bigger and better than ever. Right now the business is web based only.
